Humility, a fundamental virtue, is often misunderstood. It’s not weakness, low self-esteem, or downplaying our accomplishments. True humility is not a “low” opinion of ourselves, it’s having a clear opinion of ourselves. As St. Bernard said, "Humility is knowledge of yourself as you really are." It’s derived from the Latin word "humilitas," meaning grounded. To be humble is to be grounded, to be rooted. Will you be gratefully grounded this Lent?
