Description of the Program
Each week children learn about the current gospel reading through age appropriate lessons, stories, and activities. They participate in whole group discussions about weekly gospel readings in a child-centered atmosphere. Classes meet from the beginning of Mass until Offertory time. At Offertory time the children process into church in order to experience the remainder of the Mass with their families. Students also have the opportunity to complete projects which are centered around the important holidays of the church calendar.
Children attending either public or parochial school may attend. Religious education requirements are met by participation in this program. All Sunday School classes are held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in the lower level of the church.
Service Projects
Each year the children participate in service projects in order to learn about helping others. Some past projects have included collecting pop cans to raise money for new landscaping in front of the church and donating canned goods to give to the area food pantry.
Who May Attend Sunday School?
Classes are held at St. Elizabeth for children who are ages four through First Grade. Children must be four years old no later than September 15th.
When do Sunday School Classes meet?
Classes meet during the school year on Sunday mornings. The 2009-2010 school year will begin on September 27, 2009 and runs weekly until Palm Sunday, March 28, 2010. Classes are available during the 8:30 am and 11:00 am Masses.
There are NO SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES the holiday weekends of Nov. 29th and Dec. 27th, 2009.
Volunteer Teachers and Assistants
We rely on parent volunteers to teach our Sunday School classes. We offer as many sections of each grade level as we have volunteer teachers to teach them! We are also asking for parent volunteers to be assistants this year. It is important that there is support available to help the teachers when necessary. If you would like to learn about helping in our classrooms, please contact us.
